Productivity has been limited of late, as I’ve fallen back into trying to work decent fur coats out of Poser. Given up on the displacement map method and have gone for the hair system that is part of the program. It works the best of any method, at the cost of time, for both setting it up and rendering it.

You may recall this one from an earlier post:

Well, there’s an updated version of her on my Flickr feed, among a few other renders:

The full feed is here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/91622408@N00/

Note that all of these ladies are fully clothed and not engaged in any sort of overt sexual activity, so you may have to use your imagination a bit if you want to jerk off to them. I sense that Flickr isn’t the best place for porno, so that’s why I put the “soft” stuff there.

Minor spoilers for the latest Hasbro toy epic ahead, warning given.

Decent success, all things considered. The black fox wrap seen breifly in the preview does make about a 30 second appearance. A better score is prior to the big final battle, when the Baroness wears what appears to be a feathered black fox fur stroller length coat over her catsuit for a good 2 minutes or so. Sure, it could have been bigger… but I say that about damn near every fur coat I see. Both shots were a little dark, at least to fully appreciate black fox.

I was a little disappointed the only fake accent was American (Ms. Miller is English, and apparently a fur fan in real life). The pseudo-Russian accent was part of the original charm. She’s also no longer an unrepentantly evil character, ironically robbing her of more of her charm while making her one of the most emotionally complex characters in the whole film (and that bar is low, as you might imagine).

Evil babes wear fur, or so the internet tells me, so they’re messing with the meme. If she’s good in the sequel she might not wear fur at all, and that would be a friggin’ tragedy.

Well, she can always wear furs in my renders… while addressing the refrain of all those “naked” models:

I’m going to see the latest Hasbro toy epic for a couple reasons. First, yes, I played with the toys in question. Second, of course, is the 2 second shot in the previews featuring The Baroness pulling off what looks to be a black fox fur wrap. Little fast, but hey, I’m an optimist. Why else would I have been burned by Chelsea so many times (before I found the “good one.”)

I was always hot for The Baroness, but she was always more a latex and leather fetish lady, which I think is highly erotic, but even better with a huge fox coat on top… I decided to fix that and give her a whirl in Poser. I theorized that eventually she’d figure out she was on the losing side and just take some shooting lessons, go freelance, and get rich. Then the Baroness would add some furs to her wardrobe.

We’ll see how long it takes for this one to find it’s way to FFG’s picpost, heh… Won’t even have to ineptly Photoshop a giant dong off this one, so I’m guessing it’ll be pretty quick.

For any fellow Poser artists who are interested, the short version of the resource lists is: Bizarre Suit, Gothic Couture (shoes), Goth Passion (gloves), Ultimate Hair (HMann is the best Poser hair guy ever), and I can’t remember what set the MP5 came from. The jacket uses the “Fluffy Fur” procedural fur set I mentioned before, and the coat is… no longer available since it’s a really old V2 product.

A final note, actress who plays The Baroness in the film also wears furs in Factory Girl, one of which is a brief but very real blue fox jacket.

Well, I stop checking for legit comments for a while and suddenly there are three. To address one of them, and something I haven’t mentioned for a while, I’ll toss out some links to the fur resources I’ve used for some of my Poser fur renders.

They’re all up for grabs, and I didn’t actually “make” any myself, so you can get them (and your own copy of Poser) and make some hot babe in fur pics yourself.

Warning, buying Poser content is a bit addicting. When I consider how much I’ve dropped on it over the years and then think in terms of “new full length fox coats”, I wonder about my priorities sometimes. Also, to reiterate, you need to actually have Poser to do anything with this stuff.

Renderosity

Probably the biggest Poser content shop, and thus where you can find the most stuff:

The Poseable Boa: One of the more realistic looking pieces due to use of a detailed transmap for the “fur”. That also means it’s a monster to render.

Fuzzy Boa: The other larger looking boa from my renders. This one uses displacement maps for the fur, which are easier on the render time but not quite a fluid and realistic looking.

V4A4 MiniDress Set: Technically doesn’t mention “fur” in the description but the jacket included in the outfit certainly fits the bill. Uses an interesting combination of large geometry to simulate fur. Not great close up, but still functional. It’s what “Bunny” wears in her render.

Winter 2007 The Fur Coat for Victoria 4: Long name, decent coat. Large, which is definitely a plus, but has some issues with the collar polygons and the included textures aren’t great.

Fluffy Fur: Texture pack that can be applied to anything that uses displacement maps to create fur. Pretty good, but the standard “not quite so realistic” caveat applies as with the Fuzzy Boa. You’ll need to bump up your various render detail settings for best results.

RunTimeDNA

Another well known content provider, tends to more genre content but is hardly exclusive to it.

Snow Bride: A long time ago Poser introduced a hair system. It’s daunting to use and most people probably take one look at it and go back to useing the basic transmapped hair geometry that everyone sells. It can make realistic hair and fur, and some vendors have used it on products, like this one. By far the most realistic, but so far the creator, LittleFox, still hasn’t graced us with a complete “fur coat.”

SnowBunny: Another LittleFox creation this one with more Poser hair based fur trim in the form of a beautiful hood, cuffs, and boots. I have this but stupidly haven’t done a render with it. Just makes me wish even more they’d do a full fur coat.

DAZ

With Renderosity, the other crown prince of Poser content is, unfortunately, not a great place to find fur content.

Mukluks for V4: An interesting set that’s notable for the very realistic use of Poser hair for fur. Again, they couldn’t just have kept going?

That’s not absolutely everything I have but it’s among the best and good selection of stuff to start with if you’re looking to render hot babes (with or without enormous pensises) in Poser.

Anyone who watched Monster’s Inc. and wondered about the possibility of turning the big blue monster into a massive fur coat… should seek help. Ahem, the point is… the wonderful world of 3D animation and art seems, at first glance, to be one option for hard up fur fuckers to get some artistic release in a manner other than colorful prose.

I’m here to rain on that parade.

I’ll start with the basics. First, there are 2 things that are hard to do in 3D- “hair” and “fluid.” To spell it out more plainly… fur and spunk. Yes, those hoping to crank out gooey fur porn in 3D are in for an uphill struggle. Years ago, the prospects were completely dim, as it simply wasn’t technologically feasible for any 3D package to do it remotely realistically. Today, technology has caught up and there are viable hair and fluid techniques for many 3D packages…

Most of which cost assloads of money. The usual suspects, 3DStudio MAX, Lightwave, Cinema 4D, and the “Photoshop” of 3D, Maya, are all mondo expensive. Maya will set you back 4 figures (used to be 5), and the ones in front aren’t exactly chump change, either.

Posing in Furs

Which is why I, like many others, use Poser. Poser is a comparatively cheap alternative (note I did say “comparatively“) that focuses on composition and not construction. Basically, you take existing content and put it together in a manner of your choosing, instead of using tools to actually create 3D models. Poser content is big business, and doesn’t my wallet know it…

Sadly, though the shiny fetish market is well served in the Poser community (and 3D as a whole), the furs are few and far between. Perhaps one day there will be a hard core fur fucker who has real 3D design talent and can build some great stuff. That guy isn’t me. I’ve already complained about how hard writing is, after all.

Perhaps by luck or pure statistical probability, there is some fur Poser content. The best uses the Poser hair functionality, that, in an extremely painstaking manner, can be used to make fur:

Looks decent, if not quite fluffy enough. Problem is, it’s just one piece of content. To date, no one has come out with a fully “hair-based” fur coat. Some muffs, hats, and trim, but no full coat. To get something like that, we’re left to the poor man’s alternative, displacement maps:

Not as convincing, but it’s a lot easier to add that to existing models than it is the hair based fur. That “fur” can be added to anything, actually, as it’s what’s known as a “material” in the world of 3D.

A quasi compromise solution is to use the technique by which most Poser hair is created, geometry with transparency maps. It actually looks pretty good in the boa below, is harder to pull off when you’re talking about full garments like coats and jackets.

Transmaps can also take a while to render with sufficiently advanced lighting. The above image took over 24 hours to render. Didn’t turn out as good as I’d hoped, but after 24 hours of render time, one is quite comfortable with the term “fix it in post.”

Bonus pic because I found it in an old render folder. Besides, it’s the one render in this post without a grotesquely enormous cock (or 2).

I’ll cover cum later, but that’s even more dissapointingly limited in options.
